I guess it's a little normal to feel "stiff" at the 20 mile marker, but I doubt that a painkiller could work that kind of miracle during the last 6 miles. Maybe we are thinking placebo effect here? Personnally, I would shy away from ingesting any drug during a race - unless I had done it before and knew how I would react. But my question is, what on earth posessed this person to carry a painkiller on a race? Or was it distributed along the way? And I doubt a painkiller would have a more soothing effect than talking with fellow runners when the going gets rough...
