The biggest problem you run into is risk of injury. Why exactly do you have to do this by next July? Is this a personal goal of yours.
I know Art says you need a year of running... but... You could, if you are dedicated, watch what you eat, etc... transform yourself(exactly what you are doing here) into being able to do it.
Here is what I would do....
Take the date you want to run the marathon, lets say its July 15th 2005 go back 17 weeks from there... that puts us at(roughly): March 20th 2005. That is around when you would want to start schedule II
Ok, let's go back 19 weeks from there... and that puts us at: That puts you around November 14th to start your Schedule I.
That gives you from now, until November of 2004 to start working on the walk-to-run schedule. I think it's quite do able.
I would suggest (and also get feedback from others on this board....) that you start the walk-to-run schedule now. And stick to it.... Once you get close to November, you should be getting ready to start running 30mins anyway. So it all should fall right in line with your schedule.
Best of luck to you, and I'd be interested in hearing what others here have to say on my suggestion.
Points of reference: The above Schedules refer to The Walk-to-Run Schedule -- The Schedule 1 "Mileage Build-up" from MarathonTraining.com -- and Schedule 2 Marathon Training from mt.com
