I've been using a Hal Higdon plan for first marathons that I found in the Runners World website. It's 18 weeks in length, but when I started it, I was already comfortable running 8 miles. I've thought about switching to the half, which I've done in the past. However, I told everyone I know I'm doing the full, and I've raised over $100 in pledges, the marathon being a charity run event. Ego and charity make me extremely reluctant to downsize my goal.
