I do not use a fuel belt, but can comment on the water or Sports drink question. There are several things to look at when answering a question like that, pace, heart rate, temperature outside, humidity. When it was cool here in North Houston, I would run four miles on my long runs of 20 miles and drink about 6 to 8 oz. of sports drink and every other stop I would take in some Carbo Gel, I use Cliff Shots. But now, Sunday in North Houston at 5:30am, it was 79 deg with 96% humidity and I need fluids every 2.5 miles. All at 7:50 to 8:30 pace. You just don't want to run dehydrated. I have seen what happens after a 30k race when a running just didn't drink enough and was rolling around on the ground. So, drink often, but not so much where it sloshes around in your stomach when running. Good luck.
