Hope I'm not too late chiming in here, but if it give you some hope I wanted to add that I finished my first marathon in 4:19:19 chip time (and I was totally spent) -- and just finished my second in 3:47:09. Surprised me, especially because I really didn't alter my training schedule much. I think experience is the key; this time I didn't go out just to "survive" my first marathon; I went out to attack my second, using everything I learned from my first.
Good luck. I'm pretty sure you're going to break four hours if you just train consistently.
