I haven't yet run a marathon, but I am training for one in October and have a breastfeeding one year old. I would say definitely stop nursing during the race time-- since bfing is a supply/demand system, that should solve the problem. Can he get water or whole milk from a cup during this time? I always nurse right before running, and if he doesn't nurse enough, I pump. I plan to pump right before a half marathon in July, and depending on how much Ben is nursing in October, I might pump before the marathon. I find I can empty my breasts much more reliably with a pump than with nursing.
