Conversely when I ran my first Half-Marathon 2 years ago, my parents kept telling their friends that I had just run a Marathon.
I kept having to correct them that in fact, I had run a Half-Marathon, or 13.1 miles. I didn't want to take credit for running a Marathon when I had not.
I was proud of finishing a Half-Marathon 2 years ago, there was no embarrassment or shame about it at all.
As I recall, it hurt almost as much as running a full Marathon because I wasn't in very good shape when I ran the Half.
