I've read that book. Although the training plan looks reasonable, I was made somewhat uncomfortable with the authors' main premise. The authors, kinesiology professors at--I think--Northern Iowa University, wanted to launch an experiment to see if anyone, even those who had not previously run at all, can finish a marathon if they enroll in their course and train for only a semester.

Well, the experiment shows that that is possible, but the whole enterprise seems to locate the main goal in finishing a marathon rather than in instilling the love and habit of running in those who are new to it. Even though the authors stated that many of the students did continue to run after the marathon, I think building a good base should really come before following a marathon program.
