I just got here and read some of the wannabe posts - great responses! I'm so with some of you and as a non-runner, am not sure where to start, so this is really helpful and I hope to read more.
I used to run with a friend about 6 yrs ago - she made me do it! I walked at first and after a few weeks began running. BUT, my shins always hurt! This really discouraged me and I chalked it up to being overweight or whatever. I carry alot of muscle, but I didn't think my scale weight would take a toll on my shins (vs. knees, for example).
I started doing cardio again recently and that familiar shin pain appeared again. I've been weight training for several months, but haven't done cardio in about 7 months. During the class (step aerobics), I had to stop several times because the pain was so intense. I felt cardio-wise I could continue the workout...I felt great otherwise, but only had to stop because of the shin pain.
Any thoughts? FYI - I am currently using New Balance cross-trainers, but they are a couple of yrs old now. They look new since I keep this pair in my locker and only use them during my workouts - cardio and weight training.
Thank you!
Cindy
