I would urge you to do any marathon. Treat it as a long run in preparation for a PR at Chicago. I ran the MitP last fall with a 1,000-person registration and about 700 actual runners. There were plenty of runners to keep me company on the narrow trail. On Feb. 18, I ran the GW'sB with about 150 runners. That had some lonely but still scenic stretches. I hooked up with an equally slow runner and the two of us chatted for miles. It was good preparation for this week (the B&A) and for my real spring target, the NJ Shore. So enter the smaller marathons and enjoy them as training runs for your future marathons. If you are fast, you might even win at a small marathon! Be sure to post your comments in the Marathon Directory after your run.
