I just completed my first race, The Broad Street Run in Philadelphia. It's a ten mile race and my chip time was 1:23. :) It was a fun experience running with other people and I will definitely look into training for a marathon. I have a few newbie questions: 1.)At the water stations, are you supposed to stop and drink or grab the cup and keep running? I kind of slowed down a little to grab the cup and then jogged back to the middle of the road to drink. I saw some people stop and walk a little. What is preferred?

2.) I have never been in a race, so I started in the middle of the 9 minute miler pack. I was passing walkers and really slow runners up to the third and fourth mile of the race. As a slower runner, should I start a little ahead of my normal pace to account for the walkers and joggers who go too far to the front?

If any volunteers read this board, thank you for your efforts. Your encouragement and help are greatly appreciated by the runners. :-)
