We have the iPod, not the mini, and it is a really good MP3. It stores a ton of CD's and is lightweight. So the mini must be even lighter.
I don't use any MP3's for running, but the iPod itself is a pretty good player. You could run an ultra-marathon with it and not run out of new songs to listen to.
Yes, it is expensive. But all new technology is. Is it worth it? Depends on how much you value variety and lightweight in your music.
Also you would need to transfer your music from your CD's to the iPod to store all that music via your computer
You can buy a velcro armband with the mini iPod which should work for running.
Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with running around with one unless the device used to clip onto it is absolutely secure. I would think the player can malfunction if dropped on the ground, but perhaps not?
