Vera,

Congratulations on a fine first marathon performance!

I started running marathons again last year and ran 2 - in July and October.

This year I am running 3 - in May, August and October.

Starting out the first year with 2 or 3 max until your body gets stronger and used to running the distance is the best way to prevent injury.

Race frequency also depends on how hard you run the 26.2 miles. You could run more marathons a year if they were run at a moderate pace. If you go all out and race the entire 26.2 miles... it would take longer to recover afterwards

I was back at work running around on Monday after running the marathons last year. My pace for the 26.2 miles was more than comfortable, the soreness in my legs were gone by Wednesday and I was back running my usual mileage by the next weekend.

Everyone's different, but I think starting out with just 2 or 3 the first year means you'll be around to race for more than just another 2 or 3 years...
