Zeke is right... you need to start out slow and build up. Do you have a schedule? I am going to be using the schedule 1 for my initial build-up phase (started it once and got injured). MarathonTraining.com is a good place to look. Do the schedule one... and make sure you read all the documentation there. One of the most important I'm finding is the 10min mile. I used to run sub-6min miles "back in the day", but... I have finally realized I need to stick to the 10min mile pace in order to build up the strenth I need to go 26.2 miles. I've started running some this week, did 30mins(3miles) this past Monday and felt GREAT. I'm doing another 30min run tomorrow and am excited. I'll let you guys know how I'm progressing.
Anyhoo... yeah, I would stick to the first schedule, and look to roughly early to late January for your first Marathon.
