Let's assume that you have browsed the web, as I just did, and know that the American Dietetic Association opposes the Atkins' Diet. So the remaining issues are losing 10 pounds, training for a marathon, and running a marathon. Personally, my ideal marathon weight of 156 pounds is several pounds less than my current 164 pounds, so you aren't alone in wanting to drop some pounds prior to an important marathon. But runners lose this weight by eating complex carbohydrates and avoiding fat, the opposite of what you intend to do. If you find your diet doesn't provide you with the energy you need to train, then consider adding carbohydrates to your breakfast, and replenish your fuel system with something like a multi-grain bagel soon after you run. Just in running the mileage required to train for a marathon, you should lose the weight you desire. Immediately before the marathon, you will want to do some form of carbo loading. During the marathon, you will want to consume sports drinks and an energy food like Gu. Nevertheless, you have a great question here because your diet's preference for fat over carbohydrates is so opposite of how most runners eat. Keep us posted at least monthly on your ability to do marathon training while on the Atkins' diet. Good luck!
