High protein diets are bad for your kidneys. They have to work extra hard to excrete the protein.
I'm no expert, but, being an endurance athlete, you NEED carbs. I am new to marathons, but have been a competetive xc ski racer (I raced Div. 1 in college). I couldn't ski well and NOT have carbs. Besides, the pasta parties in high school and college were so much fun.
Good luck with whichever "diet" you chose, and with your training. :-)
