I am former elite athlete, in rowing, and was just cut from the Olympic team. I want to give myself a challenge in order to keep working out and I have always wanted to run a marathon. I am aiming to run a marathon at the beginning of October and I am wondering if that is too soon. I haven't done a lot of running in the past and I am not exactly built for it (I am a well built 6'1). I have looked at using Higdon's novice marathon training program but am wondering about maybe doing a run/walk program. I am mostly worried about my knees as I had bad patella tendonitis when I played volleyball and basketball in highschool. Right now I am running a slow 7-8kms 3-4 times a week. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
