I do not see why we have to make katy feel dumb about seeking advice here. There are a couple people on here who have made me feel like that when I was asking a question. Maybe Katy could ask her ROWING coach about a marathon, but that would be like asking a bus driver how to fly an airplane. Both drive their respective vehicles, but they are very different. Now, in respect to Katy's question, I trained for my first marathon using Higdon's novice program. Although some people do not like this plan as much, I thought it was great. I felt very well prepared for my marathon. I do not know about the run/walk approach (many people are against this). In all honesty, I think a lot of marathoners use some type of this approach, judgeing by finishing times. I admit to doing my fair share of walking during my second marathon, which I was not well prepared for at all. Anyway, best of luck to you, Katy...you will do awesome!
