I ran it last year. It is a beautiful course alongside a scenic river front but marathoners run the same course twice. Last year the course was out and back so the double loop meant you see everything four times. I didn't mind the repetition but some folks might.
Otherwise, I found the race to be very friendly and the organization was great. The race sold out last year and probably will do so again this year so don't wait to the last minute to enter.
As for traveling before a race, I've not had much problems doing so. I often arrive the day before a race and run fine the next day. If it's a long drive to get there, I make sure to stop a few times to stretch out my legs. If the trip is really far (i.e., a big time difference) then I prefer arrive at least 2 days in advance. Otherwise, I just make sure to keep doing the normal carbo loading thing while traveling.
