Saw the backpackers story and thought I would share my own. Running has changed my life definitely for the better.
I found out that my wife and I were going to be having a daughter in August of 2003. In preparation I gave up smoking but continued to gain weight. I was 5'11" 230 and had not worked out in 5 to 7 years. In October I vowed to get back in shape with my wife (an avid runner before, during and after the birth of our daughter). Since then I have lost 50 pounds, 7 waist sizes, 2 shirt sizes and 3.5 neck sizes and running was a solid part of it.
I couldn't run a block in October have since run a 9:00 5k and planning on running my first 10k in April. I have never felt better. I just wanted to let any reader know if I can come this far in five months anyone can. Just believe.
My End goal is the Chicago Marathon -- if I make it I have no idea but I am going to try pretty damn hard! That would make for a hell of a 12 months!
