my story is pretty similar---i competed in high school and college and then didnt run seriously for about a year (up till now). but i decided i wanted to do a marathon and found a four month training plan on runnersworld.com. (http://www.runnersworld.com/home/0,1300,1-51-56-633,00.html?site=RunnersWorld). i went with the beginners program even though im a pretty experienced runner because i wanted it to be low stress. it has been such a great experience! if you want to try marathoning, i recommend running easy for a couple of weeks and then following a training program like this one. you'll be ready much sooner than you might expect, and then if you like it you can keep training after you've finished your first marathon and raise your mileage to run faster in your second one. good luck, and remember, do it for fun!!!
