I am working with an 18-week plan based on a hal higdon book with the basic premise of 2 weeks of increased mileage one rest week - repeat.

I have done well on the recoveries after 16 & 17 mile runs, and if I push the big run back a week (which is an option) it seems like 4 weeks w/o a long run (+13) would be a real long time, even with a couple of 13’s and & 8 worked in.

Although the marathontraining.com site seems to be in favor of the 27 day week taper - if your last long run was a the prior weekend before the chart. Am I just being to gung-ho?

Zeke - are you saying you think I should work up to a bigger long run? 21-22? Once again I have time to adjust my plan. Should I be doing this more than once – I do not know if that is do-able in the remaining time frame.

Personally a run of 20+ is needed for my own confidence. I feel I have the ability to accomplish this, with a basic objective of just finishing in one piece. 4 hrs is my goal, I am doing the 16/17 in 8:45/mi so I hope I am being reasonable.

Obviously everyone needs to work their own plan, I guess I am looking for a guideline/advice – thanks for the help
