I just registered for my first marathon (OKC - April 25th). I've been training since October. I've completed 2 half-marathon's (one in the snow which is a bit unusual for Dallas, TX), 1 10k and 3 5k's. I've done two long runs over 20 miles and have two more planned before I start my 3 week taper.
I feel like I've trained well and should be feeling ready not nervous! But all of a sudden, I'm very concerned about my pace... I've been doing a lot of reading of various bulletin boards and the one universal bit of advice is don't go out too fast.. I'm not sure how to tell if I'm going out at the right speed. I'm not very fast - I finished both half's in 2:21 (10.76 pace). My long runs are usually at a 12:15 min pace. I would like to finish in 5 hours which would be something like 11:45, but I don't want to poop out at mile 20.... Should I just try to hold myself at a 12 mile pace, since that is what I've successfully done in practice? or can I assume the race day adrenaline will allow me to run a little faster and further and kick it up a little for the race? Or, am I just obsessing because I'm getting nervous and should channel my energy elsewhere?
Help! Mae
