I've been running consistently for quite awhile - I ran my first race in 1987. - I'm 46 years old now. I've always been more of a casual runner - but I have probably maintained at least 20-25 mpw the last 17 years. Since I started Marathon training, I've doubled that to 40-55 mpw (I'm a slow runner - so finding time to run any more than that tends to be difficult). I just did not include pace runs in my training - I didn't realize until now (great!) how important they would be.
I had a 20 miler planned for last weekend - but came down with a cold on Tuesday. I decided to do a pace run instead (a little late in the game). I ran 13 miles at pace and felt good - a little worn out from the cold - but the pace felt comfortable. I'll do my 20 miler this weekend and then a 23 next weekend. - I usually do long runs every other weekend - but I'm down to the last two weekends before the taper and I really don't have a problem recovering from a long run...
I'll stop rambling... just wish me luck!
