I was sitting way up front and didnt see folks on the ground/aisles. So you may very well be right about there being more people there than I thought. I too wished theyd been more conscientious about the time they took to get all the awards distributed. Besides starting late, I agree it certainly took much longer than it needed to.
In looking at future races and their award structures, I noticed that Montgomery County in the Parks Marathon has an interesting distribution. Last year, in addition to giving cash awards to the top-5 overall winners and top masters winners, they also gave small cash awards and gift certificates to age group winners, middle of the pack finishers, last male/female under 4 hour and 5 hour to finish as well as 20 other random gift certificates at a drawing during the pasta dinner. Its is about the same size race as Huntsville and looks to be a good race to do in Maryland some day.
