Cortisone injections are a very effective healing agent, if administered judiciously. The therapy has gotten a bad rap because of the more aggressive doses given to professional athletes.
I've had bouts of PF through the years, and find ultrasound to be the most useful therapy. But beware, all PTs are not equally expert administering ultrasound. After months of frustration with a "junior" HMO therapist, I finally found a very proficient PT, who treats elite runners. She immediately located and locked into the root of the problem, providing relief in my very first visit.
