It happened to me last year at Boston. I don’t have very regular periods but I do have a problem with Stress-induced Urinary Incontinence (SUI) so I always wear a panty liner and tampons during my races, which help control the SUI problem while I’m running. Last year at Boston, I actually did get my period while waiting in the staging area in Hopkington. But, it was no big deal since I was already prepared. I never noticed any difference in my performance during the race. If you think your period is due, bring or wear what you might need ahead of time and you should be fine. I never wear pads when I exercise as I find they usually cause chaffing problems.
