illuminating your caffeine misconceptions

I needed to clear up 2 of Carrie and Annes misunderstandings about caffeine. For adults: 1. Caffeine is NOT an addictive drug. Why b/c it causes NO serious damage or disruption to peoples lives. Most effects of caffeine are hugely postive: improved reasoning, memory, reaction time, atheletic performance [muscular endurance lung capcity], anti jetlag, mood enhancement, apetite suppresion, AND weightloss[fat burning].

That said heavy habitual consumers can have some physical and or phycological dependence [caffenism]resulting in withdrawal symtptoms, esp the last 0-100mg. The key is to step it down slowly. Excessive large dosages [600mg] of caffeine, OFTEN actually decreases anxiety and mello's the mood [yerkes dodson biphasic curve] Bottom line a inverse U shaped benefits curve , eg point of optimum return then decreasing effects. Tip: pay attention to your individual caffeine cuttoff point [time of day where it will affect sleep] and individual sensitivity [reaction and metabolic absorption-some folks are highly sensisitive.]

2. Dehydration: Caffeine does NOT cause dehydration nor does it have a diuretic effect on people who excercise and little or none on those who are resting.

This myth probably formed b/c most people drink excessive hot fluids [coffee/tea] which has a negative diuretic effect[urination] but this is not due to caffeine itself.

Final Tip: Use caffeine pills and increasing incremental doses to determine what you need...100, 150 200mg etc Affecting factors are body weight, personality type [intra vs extra vert],indidual sensitivity and stomach content all play a role. Avoid other sources of caffeine during testing [chocolate, pop, otc drugs.

The energy drink that I market has 83mg of caffeine, adaptogenic herbs and NO SUGAR to mess you up [sugar gives you a false high and subsequent crash]. I find those 83 are enough to jump start my day... a 2nd can and I'm on my way to max optimum performance [about 4hrs w/o refuel. Good Luck Everyone. Sean business VM 866-695-3510
