Careful what you wish for

The marathon is a personal test of will. I've run in 28 of them; some were wonderful, others pure hell. As others have stated, you can do it if you want it bad enough.

But if you are carrying extra pounds, I'd really recommend paring down to your ideal weight by racing 10ks, 20ks and half-marathons for a year. Then assess your fitness.

I get the sense your true desire is to lose weight, not run marathons. These other running events can be entered several times a year, all while you sculpt that new bod.
