I ran my third marathon in Dublin just over a week ago, and at 16 miles, I got cramp in both legs, and down my back. 10 miles later, I started to wonder what went wrong. In training, I am good to at least 18 miles, and I drink very little during training runs. I took potassium tables to help avoid cramp, and drank a lot of water while going round the course. The only thing i can think of is that I drank more water than usual, and drank more lucozade sport drinks while going round.
Where am I going wrong?, is there a guaranteed way to avoid cramp, or is it just something that I will have to live with. I have three more marathons planned for next year, so any help would be appreciated.
