Yes, striders are a very good element of speed training. But I would exhibit a bit of caution doing them on a sidewalk (as suggested in a previous post) because they place increased stress load to the back, hips, knees and feet. As such, they should ideally be done on a football field, running track, or grass lawn.

FYI: I prefer doing them along a golf fairway that has a very slight downhill slope. This promotes a more fluid, open stride each step of the way; which ultimately develops greater range of motion from your hips on down.
