I like to break in the shoes long enough so that I can get a couple of long runs in them prior to the marathon.
So I usually have 100-200 miles in them prior to the race; enough to have them broken in but not so much to where the support/cushioning is broken down.
Then again I am a slower marathon runner (3:3X-3:4X) and therefore run my marathons in training shoes (NEVER racing flats!)
