I too have lots of things competing for my time and energy, primarily work and other non-running activities. As much as Id like to run more, I limit myself to running 3 days a week. But I feel thats enough for me, esp. given my other activities. And since I'm not willing to sacrifice other things in my life to run more or better, I set modest marathon goals for myself to keep running a fun hobby for me, not a serious competitive sport.
I usually run early morning when its the coolest and I have the most energy. I also occasionally run on my treadmill at home. When she was much younger, my step daughter used to enjoy watching TV with me while I ran on the treadmill (shes now in college). My long weekend runs are usually completed about the same the time my husband gets up, but he helps roll me out of bed ;-) I am very thankful that he is supportive of everything I do.
BTW, I sometimes run on a bike trail in a nearby park and I occasionally see kids or spouses bicycling or rollerblading next to a runner and parents pushing their babies in strollers while jogging. I always thought those were nice ways for families to do things together. Maybe thats an option for some of you
Some how, some way, keep running!!!
