pushing through the 15-mile barrier

Hello everyone! I've been lurking around these BB's but haven't thought to post anything till now.

Info on me: I've been running regularly since high school but never more than 5-10 mpw until 4 months ago when I decided to train for my first marathon this fall. I'm 31, female, and I have no health problems. I've been increasing my weekly mileage gradually, and I'm currently up to 30-35 mpw.

My problem is with the long runs. I was okay with them in the early part of the training, but I can't seem to push beyond a certain point.

At around mile 12, I start to feel slight discomfort in the form of muscle soreness and knee pain. At 14-15 miles, the pain becomes so bad that I can only walk the rest of the way.

This has been going on for about a month. Since then, I've taken an easy week, cutting back to 15 mpw and eliminating the long run altogether, but that didn't seem to help.

I've also tried using the Galloway method, and I don't seem to see a noticeable reduction of discomfort when I run with walk breaks.

I run on paved asphalt trails through my city's park system or on dirt trails in a state park. I never run on concrete.

I would greatly welcome any advice on how to push past this barrier.
