Marathon Pace Question
Krackie!

OK. I'm doing my first marathon in Feb. & have a question about pacing. I generally go out faster and finish slower at any distance... for 5K, maybe 6:50, 7:00, 7:15... for 15 miles training maybe start at 8:30 and finish at 9:30 pace.

I'm planning on strategizing my split times, writing them on the back of the race number & trying to stick to them. I know I can finish in under 4 hrs., but 3:45 would be nice. I was planning on going out at 8:20 pace and finishing it up at 8:45, but everything I've read strongly suggests starting slower and finishing strong. I'm afraid my mind & body won't been keen on the idea of picking it up at mile 16 & I'll be in the hole.

On the other hand, my "putting time in the bank" theory failed miserably in a half marathon a couple of weeks ago... out in 7:30s, finished at 1:49:00. Ouch!

I know everyone's different & there are no solid answers, but would I be terribly wrong to go ahead & plan for the fade by going out a little faster than I plan on finishing?

Thanks for your help!
