Krackie, please post your result of your race. Did you do as well as you had hoped? I agree with RNR, starting out the same pace as your normal training pace works well for me. I have found that you will naturally know if during the race that you are going way too fast. If you feel when you are at 6 miles that you won't be able to go 20 more at the same pace you will automatically slow down without really thinking. I have always run the second half slower than the first. It is hard to run at a consistent pace the whole way. To do so a runner needs to know exactly what kind of shape they are in. I never know for sure.
