Good day ladies. New to the board, definitely not new to Galloway's line of thinking. I started using the 9/1 run/walk method during my long training runs for my first marathon. Suffice it to say, I did my first marathon in 3:56 WITH the run walk and my second one in 3:47 WITH the run walk. I run 9 minutes and walk one minute AND I stop at every water stop!!!

So, it can make for a great marathon no matter what your pace. I'm trying to get to a 16/1 method to coincide with the water stops, but why try and fix something that is not broken!

You have to do what you have to do to get over that finish line. That last time, 3:47 I went from a 8:12 pace to a 10:12 pace because of injuries the last 4 miles. I was shooting for Boston, but lost out by 7 minutes.

I just recovered from a stress fracture, so now I'm doing the 9/1 method even in my shorter runs and my tempo runs. Boston 2005...here I come!

Good luck to all with or without Galloway's method. I would recommend trying it. Taking a breather every 9 minutes makes you come out strong from the walk, and intimidates your racemates! :)
