We just added something and I hope you think it works well. We've implemented a login system for the MarathonGuide.com bulletin boards. It's a little different than what you suggested, because we wanted to ensure that people who had a real history of posting with a name would still be able to post with that name.
What we've implemented is a system that requires a visitor to have logged in at MarathonGuide.com to post to the boards. The system will record the username of each poster along with the post, but the person who is posting will still be able to type in the name that they want to be known by. This will allow people who had been posting under two names to still do so, and will allow people to use names that otherwise might not be available.
But, we'll be collecting identifiable information about the person posting, so we can ban them from the boards (or maybe even the website) if they continue to abuse the system.
Let me know what you think of what we've done. If the need arises, we will restrict users to just one name when they post.
We also created something that will let us view the posts that you marked more easily so we can delete the ones that are problems. Thanks for helping with that.
