I ran the U. of Okoboji marathon in July, 2000. Ok, let's say that I *finished* the marathon (got sick and had to walk the last 3 miles).
The comments on the US Races Directory are useful; this marathon (82 runners last year) is small, low key, a couple of good hills, and tons of little hills. One interesting feature is that there is also a triathalon, 1/2 marathon and 10K going on; so if you run 7:30-9:00 mpm you'll have people to run with (1/2 starts 2 hours after the marathon start, and the 10K start; both run on the marathon course.
Low key, fun, scenic, but challenging. The WINNER ran 3:03; I ran 50 minutes slower than I ran my next one.
