Thumper,

Im a great advocate of the treadmill. I use it about three times a week as it geta really cold and wet here. I put the gradient at 1% to allow for lack of wind resistance and if you can stand the boredom its not a bad workout. It is also about 30% less jarring than the pavement. There is a really good article in UK Runners world on treadmill sessions if you are interested.
