Yo. I swim and run on a regular basis for the fun of it, as well as to maintain weight (my endocrine system is such that I have a propensity for anabolism). I am a bit perplexed over why swimming burns LESS calories per unit time than running. Of course, I am taking into account the pace (8 min miles vs 50 yds in 1 minute swim). The calorie calculators I have visited say 350 calories in 30 minutes of swimming, and about 400 calories in 30 minutes of running. The reason this confuses me is because the swimming is so much more intense. It just seems common sense, to me, that the more intense and "difficult" an excercise, the more calories burned/time. Somebody help me out here. What am I missing?
