- Michael Good choice. It is always great to have your first marathon be the first ever marathon. I did the Boulder Backroads last year. It was the first one and my first one also. It makes it a little extra special. Which one will you do next year? The Boulder Backroads was mainly flat and on soft packed dirt roads. I have some friends that were going to Run the same race. I need to check on them and see how they did.
