I ran the Chicago marathon today. Over the final 8 miles I was subjected to repeated quad and calf cramping. What is the cause of this and is there something I can do to avoid this problem in the future? I trained over a 16 week period, did 3-20 milers and ranged as high as 40 miles per week in some weeks of training. I did the "normal" carbo-loading over the last 3 days, and drank plenty of Gatorade on the course. Any suggestions would be welcome.
