Evan, I fear posting a response as I will probably incur the rath of Bambi, but I guess we should just ignore such unproductive stuff. Anyway, in spite of what she says I think that my experience has some merit. I trained as you intend to do with my only goal for this first Marathon I completed last weekend being to finish running the whole way. I also ran the race with someone who followed the same training schedule (I met her during the first half mile of the race and we ran the whole race together). Both of us finished running strong at the end, never hit the fabled wall, had a slow time (who cares because I didn't have a time goal), and speaking for myself I am already back running and feeling good. Maybe I don't have a lot of experience but as I said in an earlier post I was advised by more than one Elite runner that if you approach the race like a training run with simple goals you don't put to much pressure on yourself and if for some reason you can't finish you can tell yourself that you ran as good as you were capable of at the time. With your age, etc. I think you will do fine. I know Bambi will say I don't know what I am talking about but discounting my opinion, consider that the advice I am giving comes from people who have been in the Olympics.
I plan on running Austin in February which I think you said would be your first. It is supposed to be a great race. Best of luck to you Evan!
