Jeff,
I figured that I'd give the San Diego Marathon a try (did my first at Rock N Roll in June), so I've been cruising the course.
The course itself is essentially flat, though the web page says rolling hills (highest elevation is about 165 feet just before the 13 mile mark).
Since the course is right on the coast, there is a potential for some wind, but the runs I've done there so far have been in calm conditions.
At a guess, I'd say its probably a pretty fast course. (Please take into account my relative lack of experience.)
The web site has a video up now that will take you around the course.
