Sounds like a good training program. Mine is similar - one day of speedwork a week, one long slow run (about 1 minute per mile slower than my marathon pace) that peaked at 23 miles, total weekly mileage of about 40 miles, topping out at about 45). Don't know what else to suggest about why you had problems in San Diego except maybe dehydration or loss of electrolytes - something along that line. Did you take power gel, gatorade, etc. in the marathon?
