Some foot pain is caused by having shoes that are too loose in the heel and to solve the slipage problem the runner must tie the shoelaces too tight and it causes pain in the top of the foot. With toe pain it might be a different reason. Possibly the shoe is a size or a half size too small. It might feel good walking around the house in the shoe but running may demand more room for your foot. I have a lot of problems with shoes pinching my outer toe and big toe and causing blisters on both. I usually have to get a shoe that has a 2E or 4E width even though the shoe slips a bit in the heel. The toe blisters are intolerable.
