Training for my last marathon, and the marathon itself, was compromised by pain in the ball of my left foot, close to the center of the foot. My podiatrist told me that it was a neuroma and we have progressed from new orthotics to a cortisone injection.
The treatment seems to have worked in part but progress is slow. I had found that anything beyond 5 or 6 miles was too painful to be worthwhile. As of this morning, I am have gone just over 8 miles. The pain now is advanced to the front of the sole, just at the edge where pressure would be greatest while toeing off.
Do the symptoms sound familiar and if so are there any recommendations as to how to stretch out the length of my longer runs?
Thanks in advance.
