I recommend it for newer runners Mike 8/24/00 5:36:36 PM ET
I ran my first marathon in 4:23. After that I got hooked up with a running group that trains the using the Galloway method. I ran my next marathon (about 6 months after the first) in 3:42 and felt great. I'm not saying that's the only reason that I improved, but I have also witnessed many others have success with this method. We train to walk through a water station every 3 or 4 miles. It helps me get a good drink, take a Power Gel and relax for a minute. Then I'm off! It's easier mentally, also, to think of a marathon in segments from break to break rather than 26.2 miles. As I have gotten more marathons under my belt I have pushed the intervals out from every 3 to 4 miles up to every 6 or 7 miles.
