I am outraged by this self serving new policy by New York Cit marathon orgnaizers. I have sent them this letter. I don't know if it'll be looked at or paid attention to, but it is worth a try. Please write more such letters to them if you are effected by this. Thanks !!
This is outrageous !! For the amount of money one pays to get into New York marathon , not mention other expenses of travel etc, there should have been a solution found for the congestion at baggage check in and retrieval. Instead it is clear the you guys decided to find the easy way out without taking into account how it will effect the runners. The long wait at Staton Island and later on walking to the hotels etc, subjected to weather and temperature changes, require that the runners have heir change of clothing a the finish and some personal items like cash, may be cell phone etc. Not everyone has a family member waiting at the finish, especially people who travel from other parts. If a knee hurts the doctor tries to find a cure to eliminate the pain. He/she does not cut the leg off. That is exactly what the organizers of this multimillion dollar business have done. Instead of finding the solution to the problem they simply eliminated the baggage service, with absolutely no regards of how it will inconvenience the runners. Not only does it add to the misery of the runners who pay a lot of money, but it also saves a whole lot of money toward the huge salaries of this so called non- profit business. I think this policy should be reversed and runners should be able to check in and pick up their baggage after the race. Just for your information, I am 21 year veteran of NY marathon !! If Fred Lebo were around, he would have never gone for such self serving policy. Arnie James.
